My Approach to Therapy

Counselling involves the development of a therapeutic relationship.  A therapeutic relationship is different from other relationships we have because what is discussed will stay between you and I.  I will accept you the way you are but still encourage you to change.  I will also be open with you about who I am.  If you want to know what I believe about something I am open to sharing with you.  I want you to feel comfortable in your choice of who to speak to about your personal troubles.

I believe that each person is unique; therefore I tailor therapy to you.  I use techniques from many schools of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, existentialism, humanism, narrative therapy, and compassion based therapies.  I enjoy adapting my knowledge and skills to fit what each client needs from me.  For some clients I help them reconnect with their bodies and learn to understand and listen to what their feelings are telling them.  Others I help to understand and challenge the thoughts and beliefs that are causing them distress, and help them change their behaviour to aid them in healing.

Change can be difficult, yet we all have the capacity to improve our situation.  Having someone to walk with you during a difficult time can help you believe that change is not only possible but achievable.

Please feel free to contact me if there are any other questions you may have in regards to my counselling services.
